About Me

I am Dr. Kate Khoukaz (aka “Dr. Kate”). I am a clinical and rehabilitation psychologist licensed in California.

I was born and raised in Buffalo, NY and continue to be a Buffalo Bills football fan. My interests in rehabilitation psychology originated with my early life experience, growing up with a bilateral amputee father affected by a traumatic accident.
I consider myself someone who has always been curious about how the human mind works. I believe discovering our drive, purpose and value is a uniquely individual process. I aim to help my patients discover these parts of themselves.

Professionally, I completed my doctorate in psychology (PsyD) with a minor in neuropsychology at John F Kennedy University in 2019. Thereafter, I completed my post-doctoral fellowship at Tampa General Hospital in rehabilitation psychology specializing in brain and spinal cord injuries, stroke, amputations and other physical/illness adjustment issues.

Since then, I have continued specializing in rehabilitative and medical psychology and working with patients at all different stages of their recovery process. I see patients both in my private practice and in the acute rehabilitation unit at Tri City Medical Center in Oceanside.

In my free time, I am frequently distance running, gardening, reading novels, and planning my next travel destination.

My Treatment Approach

My treatment approach is integrative with a focus on emotional, cognitive, and existential issues. I utilize acceptance and commitment (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), existential, and person-centered based methods. I strive to work interdisciplinary (consulting with your medical care team), as needed, in order to maximize and coordinate your care.
